Sign-ups will be the night of & the list fills up quickly, so if you want to perform, you’d better get there early…

If you’re going to perform, keep it under 5 MINUTES. That’s right: 5 MINUTES. WE WILL TIME YOU. And we will hug you when we have to stop you [just to make it easier on you (or harder – depending on your propensity for intimacy)].

Poetry, prose, music, dancing, comedy, drama, happy, sad, & on & on & on… Remember: EVERYTHING GOES… so do whatever you want.

You don’t have to perform anything; the audience is as essential as the performers.

Please don’t perform anything with a setup that takes much more time than the time it takes for you to walk onstage. Honestly, plugging things in is endlessly boring. If you need to borrow an instrument, figure it out before you’re called to the stage.

IMPORTANT ::: DON’T TAKE YOURSELF SO SERIOUSLY. Come and have fun. The end. Remember. Someday, we won’t exist and neither will the English language. If you choose to take yourself seriously, then take yourself so seriously that it’s stupid. Ridiculousness is encouraged.

WRITING w/MONSTERS - a Becoming Monster Festival ONLINE YG2D Writing Workshop

Join us for an online writing workshop with Becoming Monster - A Convening at the End of the Human…

As a part of ten’s (The Emergence Network) Becoming Monster Festival [FIND OUT MORE HERE], YG2D is offering Writing w/Monsters - an Online YG2D Writing Workshop [DETAILS HERE] with music throughout to inspire / soften / open / hold, with prompts focusing on creatively exploring our monsters of mortality [death, decay, grief and loss]. Participants might also explore the “monsters” of self and society – our own death and decay, so often in modern times considered to be “monstrously wrong,” as things that “shouldn’t happen,” or the monsters that desperately need confronting and reckoning, perhaps in the context of social justice or selfcare – cancer, pathogens, violence, war, chronic illness, mental illness, racism, etc. There is always room in You’re Going to Die spaces, and so then too with our Becoming Monster offering, for each community member to creatively explore what’s needed individually, resulting in a singularly unique communal conversation we all share – an experience never again replicated, simply ours and ours alone. Registration required. Maximum 20 participants.

FACILITATED BY: YG2D | Ned Buskirk & Chelsea Coleman
SESSION DATE: Wednesday, October 30th
SESSION TIME: 14:00 - 16:00 PDT | 21:00 - 23:00 UTC
LOCATION: Online everywhere

Becoming Monster is a five-day festival with virtual, hybrid and in-person components hosted by ten (The Emergence Network) and a strange ecology of friends and partners (non-human and human alike) from around the planet. This event is a space held for grieving the losses that come with living into the end-times AND playing with ideas of fabulation, imagination and questioning: what else might the human be in our crumbling, entangled, pulsating, animist world(s). It will take place October 30th – November 3rd, 2024 in a season associated with a porosity between realms, celebrations of reunion between the living and the dead, congress with the underworld and the ancestors. There will be a schedule of online offerings, as well as self-organized in-person gatherings and events in different places around the world. Some of these in situ events will welcome in virtual participation as well. Please check back to learn more about the sessions, celebrations and artistic offerings and the contributors that will bring Becoming Monster to life. This will be a highly participatory experience shaped and in-bodied by those who make offerings during our time together. Modes of inquiry and praxis may include making art together, engaging in ritual and ceremony, and opening space for heart / body / instinct-centered practices.

The Last Ecstatic Days: A Virtual Screening and Q&A

Join us for a virtual screening of the new documentary film “The Last Ecstatic Days”, followed by Q&A with the filmmaking team.

Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. When he starts livestreaming his death journey on social media, thousands of people around the world join to celebrate his courage. Still, Ethan envisions more – to teach the world how to die without fear. To do that, he needs to film his death. Honoring Ethan's wish, his doctor Aditi Sethi transports him to an idyllic house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. What unfolds next is a story rarely glimpsed: how a community of strangers helps a young man die with grace. A sensory immersion into leaving the body, The Last Ecstatic Days reveals a man who will not let us forget him – even after he’s taken his final breath.

You're Going to Die Presents: LIVING EULOGIES - an Open Mic to Honor Our Living [Before They’re Dead!]

You're Going to Die Presents: LIVING EULOGIES - an Open Mic to Honor Our Living [Before They’re Dead!] @ The Lost Church - San Francisco!!!

TICKETS HERE: https://tinyurl.com/livingeulogies1010

This LIVING EULOGIES show offers people the unique opportunity to eulogize the living, by sharing poems, prose, or song for that someone… WHO ISN'T DEAD YET!

Hosted by Chelsea Coleman
at
The Lost Church - San Francisco
988 Columbus Ave
San Francisco, CA 94133-2310
Doors at 7:30pm.
Show at 8pm.
All performances end at 10:30pm.
Seating is first come, first served.

Invite your loved one, your friend, your partner, your family... & take this chance to say everything you want to say while you still have the chance to say it.

Yes, you can eulogize yourself.

*And if you felt the need to re-euologize someone, someone you've eulogized before & want to do it again, OR someone you never got the chance to eulogize, there will be some room for this as well.

IF YOU ARE BRINGING THE PERSON YOU ARE EULOGIZING TO THE SHOW, YOU CAN SECURE YOUR SPOT ON THE LIST IN ADVANCE. We understand this offering might take more preparation, and out of respect for your time and the burden of logistics, we don’t want to risk you writing something AND bringing the person with you, just to run out of time (although that would be a good death practice - preparation is no guarantee of ANYTHING happening the way we plan)

Please email connect@yg2d.com to get on the performer list IF and only IF you are bringing the person with you that you are Living Eulogizing.

There will still be plenty of sign-up spots available the night-of the event for eulogies for folks who aren’t present, as well as other spontaneous eulogy-adjacent shares.

Join us for an enlivening evening of holding the light & dark in community, with a live recorded conversation and Q&A with New York Times best-selling author, world-renowned activist/thought leader, and founder of the international movement The Body Is Not An Apology Sonya Renee Taylor & the composing/performing/grief-working, dumb joke-writing, award-winning duo The Bengsons, featuring music from The Bengsons, hosted by You're Going to Die's Ned Buskirk. The evening will be recorded for an episode of You're Going to Die: The Podcast.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sonya Renee Taylor is a New York Times best-selling author, world-renowned activist and thought leader on racial justice, body liberation and transformational change, international award winning artist, and founder of The Body Is Not an Apology (TBINAA), a global digital media and education company exploring the intersections of identity, healing, and social justice through the framework of radical self-love. In her book of the same name, The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love, Sonya lays out her radical self-love vision, arguing that all people arrive on this planet in a state of self-love before internalizing messages of shame and injustice from systems of oppression. Healing, Sonya suggests, takes place through reconnecting with our inherent divine enoughness, transforming how we live in and relate to both our bodies and the bodies of others. - https://www.sonyareneetaylor.com/

The Bengsons, Abigail & Shaun, are a married composing and performing duo based in NYC and VT who have performed across the country and around the world. Their video for "The Keep Going Song" has been viewed over 4 million times. Three of their singles have been featured on “So You Think You Can Dance” (FOX). They have received the Jonathan Larson and Richard Rodgers Awards and nominations for the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Lucille Lortel Awards. - https://www.bengsons.com/

This space is for everyone who needs it to gather with community once a week & make space for ongoing &/or new grief in our lives. There will be music, readings, & time for sharing. The length of shares & how many shares will depend on who's in attendance each week - while we make special room for those who especially need our listening, remembering that our listening is its own medicine, not just for who we listen to, but for ourselves.

This online event is as FREE as you need it to be, every week. Especially if you are in financial danger, let it be FREE. We're just happy you're alive & able to join. And if you're earning income (or are just generally well resourced), we very much welcome your generosity...

YOU'RE GOING TO DIE PRESENTS: MOURNING OUR FATHERS - A YG2D OPEN MIC - BERKELEY, CA

You're Going to Die Presents: Mourning Our Fathers @ Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center - Berkeley!!!

TICKETS HERE: https://www.ashkenaz.com/full-calendar#/events/104861

You're Going to Die Presents: Mourning Our Fathers is an open mic event, the communal offering to come together and make space for the fathers & paternal figures we have lost. We will make words, songs, and shared presence our bridge between loss and remembrance. Whether you thought about them today or five years ago, join us in storytelling, song and poetry to invoke their presence and revel in the power of shared grief and community. In a world that would rather sweep sadness, anger, confusion, & grief under the rug, we will make space for it together.

Hosted by Chelsea Coleman
Featuring Kisura Nyoto*
at Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center
1317 San Pablo Ave.
Berkeley, CA, 94702
Doors at 7:30pm.
Show at 8pm.
All performances end at 10:30pm.
Seating is first come, first served.

And support MORE with ticket tiers. You choose the amount.
The tickets tiers are direct ways of offering more support to YG2D, a 501(c)3 Non-profit bringing diverse communities creatively into the conversation of death & dying, inspiring life by unabashedly sourcing our shared mortality. Thank you for any additional help you can offer.
And please email connect@yg2d.com if you need financial support to be a part of the evening.

**Ashkenaz is committed to making our events accessible to everyone including those with disabilities. We have an ADA-compliant ramp to the left of the main door.

Upon arrival, anyone needing access to the ADA-compliant ramp completes their purchase prior to entering the building. Ashkenaz personnel will then assist with finding an appropriate space.

In order to best accommodate any specific accessibility needs, we request that you call (510-525-5099) or email (ashkenaz@ashkenaz.com) us at least 72 hours prior to the performance with your request**

You're Going to Die. No. Really. You are.

*John Elliott is a songwriter, performer, and musician. He has toured in 49 of the 50 “United” States, all over the European “Union,” and has released sixteen albums in a conglomeration of genres since 2004. The fifth installment in an ongoing series of loosely related recordings released quadrennially during US presidential election years was released this May. He went viral once and doesn’t necessarily recommend it. He loves YouTube and the literary magazine “The Sun.” He believes most urban car trips can be replaced by walking, transit, or riding a bike. He lives in San Francisco with his partner and their son.
